So You Want to Do Robotics. Now What?

Let’s say you decided to get a job in Robotics. Now what? Well, almost every robotics job requires a college degree of some sort, often an advanced one. So how exactly does one get to the dream job in Robotics? Strap in, and buckle up, because we’re going for a ride.

First of all, not all colleges are created equal. Some have great medical programs but are mediocre for business. Others might be great for budding artists, but not so much for computer science majors. And some colleges are just of a higher level than others. The best colleges for Robotics, you might have heard of. MIT, or Michigan Institute of Technology, for example, has an excellent program in mechanical engineering. Carnegie Mellon University is known as the best robotics college in the United States. These colleges are very prestigious, but they aren’t your only option. Many other schools of higher education can also guarantee a job in robotics, and cost much less to attend.

However, college is (probably) still a long way away for you. So what can you do now? Well, lots of things. For one, colleges like people who genuinely have an interest in their chosen field. If that’s robotics for you, then go for it! Join your school’s robotics club, invent something for fun, take part in the science fair! These are all great ways to find out more about what you’re interested in and have fun. In fact, following your interests is the most important thing.

So that’s what I’ve got about earning a fun job in Robotics through college. This road isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay! I encourage you to do your own research about what you want and decide for yourself. Until next time, stay curious!
