Make A Rainbow

You may have seen a rainbow in the sky before. It is a beautiful band of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet (An easy way to remember this is the acronym ROY G BIV). But how does the rainbow appear in the sky?

Well, the rainbow actually has nothing to do with the sky- It has to do with light and water. You may have seen a rainbow in a waterfall or water fountain in the past. This is because sunlight refracts, or bends, when it hits water, causing a rainbow.

Now that you know how rainbows are made, see if you can create your own rainbow. You will need a clear glass of water, a sheet of white paper, and a sunny day. Take the glass of water near a window, and hold it above the paper. Watch as the sunlight is refracted by the water and a rainbow appears on the paper.
