Is It Safe To Drink Too Much Water?

From your parents to your doctor to your teachers, everyone tells you that water is good for you, and they are absolutely right! Water increases your energy levels, improves your skin health, flushes away body waste, and keeps your body healthy. But there can be deathly consequences if you drink too much water without excreting it.

This is well known as water intoxication or hyponatremia. Some common symptoms of water intoxication are head pain, nausea, and vomiting.

When you drink too much water, your kidneys become overwhelmed, and it can’t process the amount of water coming in. As a result, an excess of water builds up in the bloodstream. This water doesn’t have a place to go, so it moves into the cells. This process can cause your cells to swell, and cause damage in the brain.

So, In conclusion: Under normal circumstances, the recommended amount of water to drink is about 2 liters per day. It is not always safe to drink too much water unless suggested by a medical professional, so be careful!
