Electric Cars

Electric cars have risen in popularity since the Tesla Model S. There are many other alternatives to fuel-powered cars such as hydrogen fuel cell, but electric is the most prominent. Electric cars were created to solve the air pollution problems created by petrol cars.

Electric cars are also cheaper to have in the long run, but the cost of electricity is much lower than the cost of petroleum. However, electric cars are pricey because of how expensive the research and development are. The price is why many people are hesitant to buy electric cars. Since electric cars are new technology, it is very costly to research and develop cars that are better than their competitors. The companies would go bankrupt if they didn't rise their prices. Since there are many companies in this space currently and there is a lack of preexisting technology, companies have to compensate for the cost to develop their car by raising their prices. For example, the Tesla Model S and the Porsche Cantata may end up costing over a hundred grand while you may be able to get a Honda Accord with the same features.

Right now, the electric cars is for people who are able to afford it and car enthusiast. Another major problem for people is the lack of charging ports around. Comparing the number of gas stations to electric charging stations, you find yourself a major difference. Many people go for road trips, and this might be the reason for them to buy a gas car instead of an electric car. Even if electric cars became cheaper like the Nissan Leaf, the reason of electric range is another problem.

Though the range of a gas car heavily on the driver, the range of an electric range depends on the driver and many environmental factors like the temperatures. Also, the cheaper electric cars have a much lower estimated range compared to their gas counterparts. However, once the prices of electric cars goes down and there is more choice, the popularity will most likely increase.
