The “Curiosity” of NASA

NASA, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, is an agency that finds out information about outer space and its objects, like planets and stars. Recently, NASA has been trying to explore Mars, which is the planet that is located next to Earth in our solar system. Mars is a planet that is covered in red rust, which gives it the name “The Red Planet”. The atmosphere of Mars is very different from Earth because Earth’s atmosphere has oxygen to support human life, but Mars’ atmosphere is thinner and is mostly carbon dioxide, making it dangerous for humans. Because of this, humans cannot explore Mars in person. Instead, NASA has been transporting devices called rovers to Mars since 1997. These rovers are able to provide NASA with videos, photos, and information about Mars. Most of the information that humans know about Mars comes from these rovers, which use solar power, travel using wheels and have special instruments to collect information about the environment. One rover, named Curiosity, was released 9 years ago, in 2011. This rover has the mission of finding out whether Mars could support micro-organisms millions of years ago. Just last month, on February 26, 2020, the Curiosity rover set a new record for the steepest land it has ever climbed on the surface of Mars. It recorded its journey climbing a hill called “Greenhaugh Pediment” using its robotic arm, which looks like a selfie stick. It took a “selfie” using its navigation camera once it reached the top of the hill, showing its journey and an exciting part of Mars.

In conclusion, NASA does many explorations to find out more about the area outside of our planet and provides us with a lot of exciting information about outer space and other planets.
